Serving Rural Pope County, Illinois
For generations, Rural Pope County Fire Protection District has stood ready β protecting homes, families, and the open land we all call home. Fast response. Deep roots. Trusted neighbors.
Who We Are
We are not a distant agency. We are your neighbors β the men and women who live, work, and raise families in Pope County alongside you.
Our district covers the rural communities surrounding Harrisburg, from scattered farms and woodlots to the quiet roads that connect them. When an emergency calls, we answer β whether it's a structure fire, a vehicle accident, a medical response, or a natural gas leak. And when the sirens are quiet, we're out on the roads running inspections, visiting schools, and making sure every household in the district knows what to do if disaster strikes.
Headquartered at 1 N Main St in Harrisburg, we respond to a wide service area where help can be far away. That's why our readiness isn't just policy β it's personal.
What We Do
From rapid emergency response to everyday prevention, we cover the full spectrum of public safety for rural Pope County.
Structural fires, brush fires, vehicle fires, and hazardous material incidents β responded to with trained crews and properly equipped apparatus.
First response EMS for cardiac events, trauma, respiratory distress, and other medical emergencies while awaiting transport.
Motor vehicle collisions, extrication, water rescue, and technical rescue along rural roads and waterways throughout the district.
Commercial and residential fire code inspections, plan reviews, and hazard assessments to stop fires before they start.
Fire safety workshops for schools, senior centers, and community groups β including CPR training, smoke alarm installation, and home escape planning.
District-wide planning for severe storms, flooding, and natural disasters β including coordination with county emergency management.
Community First
A fire protection district is only as strong as the community it serves. We invest in relationships β because the fastest response starts with a community that's prepared.
We hold regular safety demonstrations at local schools, partner with Harrisburg community organizations, and encourage residents to participate in fire prevention programs. When you know what to do in an emergency, everyone gets home safer.
